The streets of Baltimore once again were closed for the business of normal commerce and opened for business of speed. American Le Mans and IndyCar dropped the green flag on racing for the 2013 Grand Prix of Baltimore over Labor Day weekend.

For American Le Mans the results show a continued runaway for the P1 class, the top prototype in the series. Muscle Milk – Pickett Racing with drivers Klaus Graf and Lucas Luhr took the top spot in Baltimore adding to their more than double points lead coming in. The battle in P1 through the rest of the season falls to the second and third spots on the final podium. (more…)

The American Le Mans Series opened today. The big opener known as the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. Sports car racing, Prototypes, sunshine.

Unlike Formula 1 which had their practice sessions pushed back to race day because of very heavy rain, Sebring is boasting sun and mid-70’s on the thermometer.

Not that at we can watch. At home SPEED channel is available in lovely 16×9 HD. However, on the road and staying a bit out of the way, SPEED is not available on the TV we have. ESPN3 – NADA. The alternative is to go online but the ALMS website feed is shown as unavailable in the viewing area. (more…)

Virginia International Raceway had some tangles in 2011. The AMA “Suzuki White Lightning” event was pulled from the August date basically from a lack of communication, contract verbiage and an issue with promotions. Fingers pointed both ways. The end picture is that a big weekend at VIR was out.

Follow that with the announcement from the Grand-Am ROLEX Series that VIR would not be on the schedule for 2012.  New Jersey gets an earlier date and Belle Isle Park in Detroit is added to the mix. The Grand-Am race has been a showcase nationwide coverage event for VIR for several years.
Two big events that went a long way to re-establish Virginia International Raceway as a destination for fans and racing were out of the picture as 2011 came to a close.

This would seem to put a kink in the potential for 2012. Hit the brakes and stop the presses, so to speak. However, the folks at VIR have some surprises in store that may have blown by while you were watching the last turn… (more…)
