Kenseth In Vegas But Who’s Talking?

Well… That was a pretty good hire… Don’t ya think?

Pretty much a no-brainer, really. He did win races last year including the Daytona 500. He did make the “Chase” last year…

So the jump to the #20 was a good one for Joe Gibbs Racing.

Not bad for Matt Kenseth, either. Even after talk of getting used to a new car, new team, new suit, new sponsors… All that “new” and Kenseth still pops to the top to win the third race of the season at Las Vegas.

Yet even with this, an early season win with a new team, the chatter is on with the top three in points. Jimmie Johnson, Brad Keselowski and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. It’s not as if Kenseth was scraping the bottom and lucked through or even sitting mid-pack. He is sitting in the 7th spot in points.

However, all things considered the top 3 names do carry some interesting lines. “Five Time” Jimmie Johnson is off to a big start with the 2013 Daytona 500 and his string of consecutive championships began with a ‘500 win in ’06.

That is a good story.

Brad Keselowski drove a Penske Dodge to the championship last year as Dodge was pulling away from NASCAR. A top 3 early start of the season with a new manufacturer (Ford) is a good story.

Dale Jr. is… Well, he is Dale Jr. Always a good story.

But what of Matt Kenseth? He won the Kobalt Tools 400 in Vegas and is sitting in the top 10 in Sprint Cup points. A lot can happen with practically a full season left to run.

stewart_throw01The next race rolls east to Bristol. The last time, in August of last year, Tony Stewart was throwing a helmet at Kenseth.

That should be a good story going to the Food City 500…

Don’t ya think?
