Mid-October and racing is going into the final laps. Indy was done a while ago. Grand-Am is done. American Le Mans closes this weekend. NASCAR has a hadfull of races left. Formula 1 also has a few left, including the return to America. NHRA still has a couple left…

Ryan Hunter-Reay won the IndyCar title. Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas won the Daytona Prototypes with Chip Ganassi Racing in Grand-Am. The GT title was driven away with Jeff Segal and Emil Assentato for AIM Autosport. The classes of American Le Mans have been mathematically clinched heading into an all out race to win for the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.

NASCAR is at Kansas this weekend, then on to Martinsville, Texas, Phoenix and Homestead. Brad Keselowski is currently edging the points. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is still nursing a concussion and should be back by Martinsville.

Formula 1 has the Indian Grand Prix on the horizon. Following New Delhi then they run the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, then in Austin, TX and close in Brazil. Sebastian Vettel currently holds the lead just recently taken from Fernando Alonso.

NHRA Full Throttle has a couple left lining up the lights at Las Vegas and Pomona.

There is plenty of racing left so don’t let “football fever” sway you. Think about it… What has football given you? Do you use shoulder pads every day? How about skin-tight pants and cleats? Mouthguard…? Cup…?

No…?

But you do drive every day! Racing has given you better economy, aerodynamics, brakes, safety, tires and even hybrid technology. Racing has improved the car you drive every day. The smooth ride and handling and materials technology have all passed through racing to get your kid to football practice. Racing has given you a better vehicle.

Football has given you a schedule for your kid. That is, if your kid plays football. Most don’t. Most fans don’t and never really have. So… Why give so much to a sport that has given you little, if anything…?

Go Racing.
